WHY CHANNEL PARTNERS NEED TO CONSIDER OPEN MDR PLATFORMS
An open platform can help channel partners identify which tools in the security stack are providing best value for enterprises and can help partners have a deeper conversation around what is making the biggest impact says Simon Godfrey at Secureworks .
In the current macro-economic climate , security leaders are walking a tight rope between growing security challenges but static budgets . The expertise of the channel as a strategic partner that can help organisations to understand risk and investment has never been more or important – or needed .
Customers need a trusted partner that can help them to make smart cyber decisions based on an understanding of their business risk . This is where solutions such as open Extended Detection and Response , XDR solutions are really coming to the foreground . Not only does XDR offer visibility of threats , but it also supports analysis of the effectiveness of security tools to help customers make the most of their security investments , aligned with their business objectives .
One of the challenges facing the channel is that the old ways of defending are no longer as effective as they once were . As the ways we defend change , partners need to look at their portfolios and ask themselves : are these the right tools to position my customers for success ? And for those running a managed service , are these tools

For example , while Security Information and Event Management , SIEM may once have been the most effective way of gaining a centralised view , that is not necessarily the case now . Today ’ s multifaceted environments coupled with a fast-evolving threat landscape means SIEM – which are costly and labour intensive – are no longer as effective in detecting and responding to threats .
Similarly , despite still being a vital part of the security stack , organisations can no longer rely on siloed endpoint detection and response , EDR – a vastly outdated view when considering some 61 % of data from our customers does not come from endpoints . Moreover , many network detection tools lack visibility into cloud environments .
By applying a critical eye to your portfolio , you can identify where the gaps are emerging and get a step ahead . If you do not , your customers will . And they will seek out partners that will too .
