dDescribe your current job role and a summary of the business model of your organisation?
Richard Timperlake serves as the Senior Vice President of Sales for Europe, Middle East, Africa at Confluent. Since his appointment in 2022, Timperlake has been instrumental in driving digital transformation initiatives across the region, enabling organisations to harness real-time data for enhanced customer experiences, operational efficiency and business innovation.

Confluent serves a diverse customer base, from smaller organisations to large enterprises, with approximately 5,800 customers globally. The company’ s business model is heavily focused on customer success, working both directly with customers and through an extensive partner ecosystem.
This includes regional integrators, global system integrators, cloud service providers, and ISPs. These partnerships ensure that customers can deploy Confluent’ s technology efficiently, derive value from it, and achieve their business goals.
What strengths and abilities do you bring to your role, and how does your experience shape your approach?
With over 20 years of experience in highgrowth software companies, Timperlake has played a key role in management teams that have driven significant growth through strong products and market opportunities. A key focus has always been on assembling high-quality management teams to support customers and help them succeed.
Can you describe the expectations of the customers that you work with? What are their pain points today?
Many of Confluent’ s customers are already using Apache Kafka, a distributed event streaming platform for real-time data pipelines and streaming applications. Confluent helps them migrate Kafka to the cloud, reducing operational and maintenance costs while enhancing functionality. However, the bigger challenge often lies in managing highly complex IT systems that are difficult to integrate, making it harder for businesses to meet the rising expectations of their customers.
To address this, Confluent provides a data streaming platform that allows organisations to stream, connect, process, and govern their data within a single, real-time platform. Additionally, Confluent’ s fully integrated Apache Flink service enables real-time data
