In this edition’s Editor’s Comment we take a look at the latest security trends that have arrived as a result of recent developments in technology. The cybersecurity scene is ever-evolving with the latest products coming to market as a response to new threats that seem to emerge with alarming regularity - such as attacks on voice- controlled devices and the skyrocketing rise in identity thefts Virtually every week we see revised predictions about the true cost of cybercrime. It’s certainly true to say that all these predictions have one thing in common – they always increase and never decline. When we stop for a minute to think about the real cost inflicted on companies all over the globe by the nefarious activities of cybercriminals the picture is truly eyewatering. And as Ashraf Sheet, Regional Director, Middle East and Africa at Infoblox, points out in his column on the next page the channel can gain a vital edge in the battle against cybercriminals by staying one step ahead of the bad guys. And the good news is he provides advice about how they can do so, making INTELLIGENT TECH CHANNELS INTELLIGENT TECH CHANNELS Issue 24 his comments essential reading for those operating in the channel. We also hear from Taj El-Khayat, Regional Director MENA, Citrix. He argues that the way to remain competitive in the channel is to evaluate security processes relating to information. Again there is plenty of valuable advice to process and who knows this might just make life a little easier in the battle against the bad guys. Let’s hope so anyway because we can be certain that the battle isn’t about to get easier anytime soon. All we can do is remain vigilant and update our skills and processes as best we can. 15
