Orange to implement Nokia RAN across seven
African countries
Nokia and Orange Middle East and Africa
are rolling out a Nokia single radio access
network and network management
technology across seven African countries
in a three-year modernisation project to
prepare for the launch of 4G services. To
facilitate the deployment Nokia has set up a
dedicated West and Central Africa Support
Centre for Orange.
In one of the largest LTE rollouts in
Africa, Nokia will modernise around 11,000
radio sites in Egypt, Ivory Coast, Cameroon,
Senegal, Mali, Guinea-Bissau and Niger.
Leveraging Nokia’s Single RAN technology
and modernisation services, Orange will
be able to support existing 2G and 3G
subscribers while enhancing speeds and
coverage as it launches 4G services. With
12
deployment underway, Orange has already
lowered operational costs and launched
new 4G services in Egypt, Ivory Coast,
Cameroon, Mali, Senegal and Guinea-Bissau.
The company is also enhancing 3G service
with an average 85-percent increase in
throughput, and is experiencing a 90-percent
increase in traffic across the seven countries.
From the dedicated Orange support
centre in the Ivorian capital, Abidjan, Nokia
is leveraging its expertise to deliver full set
of services, including alarm, performance
and configuration monitoring, as well as
corrective actions on the radio installed
base, while speeding implementation and
optimising the network to ensure more than
60 million Orange subscribers experience
consistent high-quality service.
du builds cloud
managed security
services on Fortinet
Security Fabric
Fortinet, a global vendor in broad,
integrated and automated cybersecurity
solutions, announced that UAE-
based telecommunications service
provider du, from Emirates Integrated
Telecommunications Company, has selected
Fortinet Security Fabric solutions as the
foundation of its Cloud Unified Threat
Management managed security services,
designed for enterprise broadband
premium and professional customers, as
well as small and medium organisations.
Fortinet’s FortiPortal serves as the
enterprise’s single-pane of glass management,
providing security visibility and control of the
enterprise customer’s Internet traffic.
As part of its strategy for new value-
added services to its enterprise and
professional customers, du was looking to
deliver a cloud-based clean pipeline service,
providing both granular security services
coupled with customer’s single point of
management for self-service and visibility.
Other key selection criteria included the
capabilities of security infrastructure to
support a rich set of security services and
capabilities, such as web content filtering,
virus protection, intrusion prevention,
application control, data loss prevention and
remote VPN access. Fortinet’s FortiPortal
provides du with everything required to
fully manage the FortiGate enterprise
firewalls from a centralised management
console with remotely managed network
security from any location, via the cloud.
It also allows these capabilities to be
extended to du’s customers, allowing them
a single pane of glass management to check
their own network security status, and
modify firewall policies through a complete
customer-centric interface.
In addition, Fortinet’s FortiAnalyzer
centralised network security logging and
reporting as well as FortiManager centralised
security management solutions are deployed
to provide complete management and
reports to du customers.
