INDUSTRY VIEW
It is an industry plagued by skills shortages and resource constraints. A sector in which firms are commonly not only occupied but overwhelmed by daily tasks. That kind of reality is not conducive when it comes to occasionally taking a step back, spotting the internal opportunities and actioning them.
The result is that business decisions are often made based on instinct rather than hard evidence. And that lack of informed direction leads to risks and lost opportunities.
For MSPs, we often see this scenario playing out in relation to sales and marketing. While many MSPs themselves have a sophisticated customer relationship management( CRM) system, few take the time to study the data within it. That leads to a lack of clarity in terms of where sales stem from, where marketing campaigns have( or have not) worked and whether lead generation efforts are actually yielding results.
Without a real grasp on these metrics, planning for growth becomes highly speculative. However, it is not down to a lack of data, but often the inability of busy companies to find the time to query it.
Finding a way to prioritise data-driven development For MSPs to thrive, it is important to find a way to prioritise internal data-driven development.
Analysis of lead-related data might show that it makes greater business sense to outsource some activities or automate marketing processes. Equally, analysis of support tickets, customer retention statistics and customer satisfaction scores could highlight opportunities to strengthen relationships and further protect the firm’ s bottom line.
Fundamentally, better business insights drive better decisions, which can then drive more predictable growth. Additionally, keeping a close eye on service desk data can further help MSPs predict and preempt client needs, enhancing the value they deliver.
This does not necessarily require the attention of multiple fulltime employees. Indeed, many insights can be unlocked through the deployment of modern analytics, automation and AI insight platforms. The right tools can surface key performance metrics, making it easier to base critical business decisions on verifiable facts.
